Comments for AQA:
- This is a clear statement of intent that offers a good
concept that matches the TV crime drama / TV listings magazine brief. It
fits the target audience appropriately and certainly feels like a ‘Netflix
style’ show.
- Media language elements are considered thoughtfully
although perhaps lacking specific details in places. Although the
statement confirms the extract will be the ‘cold open’ for the drama it is
not clear exactly what the three-minute extract will include.
- Representation is addressed effectively with reference
to gender and media theory. More detailed or sophisticated application of
the theory could push this towards level 4 or 5.
- Audience is a strength of the statement with similar
shows, psychographic groups and audience pleasures. Like representation,
it lacks a little sophistication for the top level.
- Digital convergence briefly touched on with reference
to streaming but needs to link the video and print elements for the top
levels. Print element of brief is lacking detail too.
Feedback:
- This is not far from the top levels and just needs a
bit more detail or sophistication in places.
- Think about layout – perhaps consider starting with the
extract details and covering the print brief later? I appreciate you will
add to the print brief once we get to that element but it will definitely
need a bit more detail and specific planning.
- Consider using subheadings and bullet points for the
media language section. This will help save you words in the word count
and also highlight if you are not fully covering the how and why
which are the critical elements in a statement of intent. Be detailed and
specific in terms of what you want to communicate to the audience.
- Representation is solid with the gender focus but I’d like you apply the theories at a deeper, more sophisticated level. When you talk about gender being constructed can you say more about how and why you will do this? Can you bring in any other theories here?
- Industries and digital convergence could be stronger but perhaps look at this when you have more detail for the print brief.
Improvements:
- Tagline
- Deeper explanations of theorists
- Magazine section
